BT – Setting the internal communications framework for 21st Century Network

Purpose
As part of the £10 billion 21st Century Network Programme, BT needed an internal communications strategy and plan to ensure that there was a structured approach to convey important information to its employees.

Approach
After detailed research, site visits and interviews, a communications strategy was developed focusing specifically on the circumstances around the implementation of 21CN which would affect BT’s people. It ranged from communicating milestones and good news stories to training requirements to resourcing issues. A more detailed monthly plan was created in order to maximise the implementation.

Result
A fully integrated internal communications strategy for all people-related issues across the 100,000 employee base was rolled out to all the key 21CN internal communications leads in BT. In addition, communications champions were coached and mobilised to deliver their own 21CN people communications based on the overall approach.
